Do I Need to Worry About My Implants Expiring?

Published on September 14, 2017 by Brian Joseph

Although breast implants don’t have an expiration date printed on them, they do not last forever. The implants will experience wear and tear due to the strain the muscles place on them and as they rub against the surrounding tissue. Sometimes a breast implant may even rupture for no obvious reason.

The life span of your breast implants is dependent on a number of factors. The type of implant used plays an important role in the lifespan of your implants. Saline-filled implants are more susceptible to ruptures, and if they do rupture, it will be very noticeable. Silicone implants can rupture as well, but sometime they rupture in a way that does not disturb the appearance of your breasts.

There is no need to replace your implants until a rupture or another issue that affects the appearance of your breasts occurs. If you suspect that you have a ruptured implant, or if you are no longer satisfied with the appearance of your implants, contact Park Avenue Plastic Surgery to schedule a consultation for your implant exchange.
