Maybe you’ve spent years basking in the sun without the proper protection, or you’ve enjoyed a life filled with laughter. While these things are what make life grand, the result of a satisfactory life can leave you with unsatisfactory consequences. When you look in the mirror, you may notice loose skin or folds around your face and neck, as well as creases around the mouth area.
Board-certified Orlando plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Joseph and his staff at Park Avenue Plastic Surgery can help reverse these visible signs of aging and rejuvenate your natural beauty. Modern cosmetic surgery makes it possible to eliminate the telltale signs of aging, shedding years, even decades, of your facial features. One effective way to reduce the appearance of aging is with a facelift. Also called “rhytidectomy,” a facelift is a surgical procedure designed to improve your facial appearance and boost your self-confidence.
What a Facelift can’t do
It is important to note that a facelift does not remove deep wrinkle lines; these require skin resurfacing techniques. Your forehead and eyelids will also not be tightened with facelift surgery. In addition, this procedure does not stop the natural aging process but rather rejuvenates the facial structure.
What a Facelift can do
A facelift can give you a more refreshed, rejuvenated appearance without the surgical or “windblown” look that is sometimes seen with this facial surgery. Friends may ask if there is something new you did with your appearance or if you look more rested. At the same time as facelift surgery, Dr. Joseph can correct other consequences of aging in your face and neck with additional cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. You may choose from both surgical and non-surgical procedures.
How Much Does a Facelift Cost?
Because every patient has a unique facial anatomy and desired outcome, all facial rejuvenation procedures are personalized to meet his or her needs. By thoroughly discussing the surgery and your goals, Dr. Joseph can better prepare a treatment plan that’s specifically tailored to you. Once he has determined the proper surgical techniques to use for your procedure, he’ll discuss the cost associated with it.
How a Facelift works?
The most common surgical practice in a facelift procedure is to tighten the skin and underlying muscles of your neck and face. Plastic surgeon Dr. Joseph will make an incision in the natural creases to the front of and inside your ear. This incision will extend into your scalp and behind your ear on your hairline. Making the incision in the natural creases helps hide scarring after surgery.
Dr. Joseph will then separate your skin and facial muscles from your deeper facial tissue to better visualize the area to be treated. The SMAS layer, which consists of the muscle and fascial layers, will then be elevated and tightened to shape and sculpt the face. After the tightening or removal of excess skin, the skin is re-draped and sutured in place.
The operation will be performed under general anesthesia, meaning you can opt to be awake or asleep during the procedure. Oftentimes, you will stay overnight with a private nurse and nurse aide. This provides personal attention to the patient and makes it a more comfortable recovery. Neck liposuction may also be performed in conjunction with a facelift in certain circumstances.
It is important that you follow Dr. Joseph’s post-operative instructions to prevent complications or infection. This will also aid in a speedy and healthy recovery.
Am I a good candidate for a Facelift?
A facelift can produce amazing results, but it isn’t for everyone. You are a good candidate if you:
- Have skin that is still relatively supple
- Are in good overall health
- Have realistic expectations
- Fully understand the risks and limitations
