Many people have decided in increasing numbers that they would like to hold on to their youthful appearance. As people age, sun spots, wrinkles, and more become just another part of daily existence. Looking in the mirror, people may wish they looked younger. But wishing they looked younger and doing something about it are two different things.
With intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation, the skin’s youthful appearance can be restored. This procedure works well on several benign skin conditions as well as facial imperfections. This is a non-invasive treatment that takes four to six sessions and is tailored to your individual needs. IPL treats:
- Aging skin
- Enlarged pores
- Hyperpigmentation (brown spots)
- Rosacea
- Sun damage (arms, chest, hands, neck)
- Telangectiasia (broken capillaries and spider veins)
How IPL Works
Using a hand piece that is placed over the area to be treated, a broad spectrum of light penetrates the skin and into the tissue. Here, the light is absorbed by either the blood if vascular lesions are being treated, or the melanin when removing pigmented lesions. The way the light is absorbed depends on the type of wavelength used and what type of application is being applied. The injured tissue is naturally removed by the body and the skin is given a more even, smoother appearance.
The IPL procedure has minimal discomfort and uses a topical gel, as well as a cold gel to counteract the heat and soothe the skin during the treatment. Four to six treatments will be needed in order to achieve optimum results. These treatments take as little as 30 minutes, which means patients can resume their lives with virtually no downtime. However, you must wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun
The aging Baby Boomer population has increasingly been interested in keeping the look they used to have, and have found this can be done using IPL.
